Marine object detection plays a crucial role in various applications such as collision avoidance and autonomous navigation in maritime environments. While most existing datasets focus on 2D object detection, this research introduces a novel 3D object detection approach that relies exclusively on LiDAR (Light Detection And Ranging) data, specifically tailored for small Unmanned Surface Vehicles (USVs), where energy efficiency and computational constraints are key challenges. This study contributes a new point cloud dataset collected from a 2-meter autonomous USV and augmented through a hardware-in-the-loop simulation environment. The PointPillars network, chosen for its efficiency in processing LiDAR data, was trained and evaluated in this maritime context.

HERCULES (Haptically-Enabled Robotically Controlled Ultrasound Examination System) has successfully demonstrated its ability to conduct remote ultrasounds. This technology enables clinicians to perform precise and routine ultrasound scans remotely, from another room, city or even country. Its transformative impact on clinicians' wellbeing significantly reduces musculoskeletal strain and fatigue commonly experienced by sonographers, addressing a critical occupational hazard in the field.

The network architecture consists of three interconnected workcells, each containing controllers, sensors, actuators, and cameras, all connected to a cell switch. These cell switches are further linked to a central core switch, which serves as the hub for communication and data aggregation. The core switch connects to a supervisor, which oversees the network and ensures smooth operation.

Our system consists of two phases: 1) multi-camera calibration and 2) 3D human reconstruction. In the multi-camera calibration, we optimize camera parameters using a simple ball-wand as a marker. In the 3D human reconstruction, we reconstruct the geometry and appearance of 3d human using the optimized camera parameters and sparse input views.
