We publish original research or new developments across all IEEE fields of interest with an average submission-to-publication time of 4 to 6 weeks. Our editorial team consists of the Editor-in-Chief, Editorial Board, Senior Editors and Associate Editors—all volunteers, they are experts in their fields with experience in research and publishing.
Our editor-in-chief is responsible for the overall direction of the journal, ensuring that work published is of the highest quality, meeting publication policies and procedures of IEEE, and carrying out the editorial mission. The EIC is also a member of the Editorial Board.

IEEE Access Senior Editors are IEEE Fellows or experienced IEEE Senior Members who are highly accomplished in their respective fields in terms of technical publication. Senior Editors directly assist the Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, and Associate Editors with making decisions that ensure the publication maintains the highest quality while adhering to the publication policies and procedures of IEEE. At IEEE Access, we have 60+ senior editors from institutions around the world volunteering for this role.
The IEEE Access Associate Editors are responsible for ensuring that the publication maintains the highest quality while adhering to the publication policies and procedures of IEEE. Their work includes coordinating the peer review process, selecting relevant reviewers who are capable of providing critical, detailed feedback, ensuring that only high-quality articles are published, and maintaining our expedited peer review process of 4 to 6 weeks. At IEEE Access, we have several hundred associate editors from institutions around the world volunteering for this role.
The IEEE Access staff members ensure operational efficiency, journal management, and enforce journal compliance with IEEE policy. The Managing Editor oversees the staff and collaborates with the Editor-in-Chief on editorial leadership. The Editors, including the Managing Editor, have PhDs in STEM fields, and assist with manuscript handling. The Publications Editors manage the daily tasks of peer review. All Editors assist with investigating misconduct or plagiarism concerns to ensure the integrity of the journal is upheld.
The Strategic Processes and Communications Manager assists with strategic vision of the journal, internal and external communications, marketing, and vetting and onboarding editors.
The IEEE Publishing Operations Senior Manager, Journals Production, and Journals Production Managers assist with the production processes for timely publication of accepted articles for IEEE Access.
