Learn More About IEEE Access

A Multidisciplinary Open Access Journal

IEEE Access is a multidisciplinary, online-only, gold fully open access journal, continuously presenting the results of original research or development across all IEEE fields of interest. Supported by article processing charges (APCs), its hallmarks are rapid peer review, a submission-to-publication time of 4 to 6 weeks, and articles that are freely available to all readers.

10 Years of Quality Open Access Publishing

A Scope Covering all IEEE Fields of Interest

IEEE Access publishes articles that are of high interest to readers: original, technically correct, and clearly presented. The scope of this journal comprises all IEEE fields of interest, emphasizing applications-oriented and interdisciplinary articles.

IEEE Access hosts IEEE Society/Council Sections as well as Special Sections, which give researchers the opportunity to publish their work in dedicated topical sections.

Bibliometrics

IEEE is a signatory of the San Francisco Declaration on Research Assessment (DORA). DORA is a set of recommendations and principles aimed at improving the way research outputs are evaluated, emphasizing the need to evaluate research based on its content, merits, and broader impacts rather than relying solely on journal-level metrics.

IEEE provides a range of metrics to encourage a shift toward assessment based on the scientific content of an article rather than publication metrics of the journal in which it was published.

See https://sfdora.org/read/ for more information.

IEEE Access was included in the 2022 Journal Citation Report (JCR) and received:

  • an impact factor of 3.9 *Impact factor = citations in 2022 to articles published in 2020 and 2021/articles published in 2020 and 2021
  • an Eigenfactor of 0.32872 *Measured by counting the total number of citations a journal receives over a five-year period
  • an article influence score of 0.685 *This is a journal-specific Eigenfactor score. It is calculated by dividing the Eigenfactor score of the journal by the number of articles published. It tells the average impact of an article published in a journal from a five year period after the publication of the article.
  • an immediacy index of 0.7 *Immediacy index = citations in 2022 to articles published in 2022

In terms of 2022 Scopus citation data, IEEE Access received:

  • a CiteScore of 9.0 *2022 CiteScore counts the citations received in 2019-2022 to articles, reviews, conference papers, book chapters and data papers published in 2019-2022, and divides this by the number of publications published in 2019-2022.
  • a SCImago journal rank (SJR) of 0.926 *SJR measures weighted citations received by the journal. Citation weighting depends on subject field and prestige (SJR) of the citing journal.

Article Processing Charge (APC)

IEEE Access is a gold fully open access journal supported by article processing charges (APCs). The APC is $1,995 per article (plus applicable local taxes) without page limits.

Corresponding authors who are IEEE members receive a 5% discount; IEEE members who are also IEEE Society members receive a 20% discount (the 5% IEEE member discount plus an additional 15% discount for Society membership).  Please note that this discount does not apply to Student or Graduate Student Members.  More information can be found on the IEEE Author Center.

Authors from low-income countries (as classified by the World Bank) are eligible for discounts on article processing charges. Discounts are based on the country of origin and are only applied if all authors are from a country eligible for a discount. For more information, please click here.

The IEEE APC waiver for low-income countries (as classified by the World Bank) is in place to assist authors from geographical locations whose economic situation creates a genuine hardship that would otherwise prohibit them from publishing. However, we expect that all sources of funding are considered; for example, if all co-authors are not from low-income countries, our expectation is that they will help cover the required APC. Please click here to learn more about why IEEE and other publishers charge APCs for open access: https://ieeeaccess.ieee.org/guide-for-authors/post-acceptance-guide/

In addition, your institution’s library may have established a deposit account with IEEE to pay APCs on your behalf. Please check with your institution’s library to see if a deposit account is available.

Please note that discounts cannot be combined.
