Zhiwei Gao (Fellow of IEEE) received the BEng degree in industrial automation and MEng and PhD degrees in systems engineering from Tianjin University respectively in 1987, 1993, and 1996. Currently he is the Reader and Head of Electrical Power and Control Systems Research Group at Northumbria University. His research interests include estimation and filtering, diagnosis and control, digital twins, wind energy systems, electric vehicles, offshore energy, and power electronics. He has served as academic editor and leading guest editor in premier journals such as IEEE Transactions on Industrial Informatics, IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control, IEEE Transactions on Systems Man and Cybernetics: Systems, IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, IEEE/ASME Transactions on Mechatronics, IEEE Access, and Renewable Energy (Elsevier). He is the recipient of the Alexander von Humboldt Research Fellowship (2004) and the Fellow of IEEE (2023).
