Dr. Mehdi Sookhak (M’12, SM’19) is a tenured Associate Professor of Computer Science at Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, where he leads research at the intersection of wireless networks, edge intelligence, and cybersecurity. His work focuses on architecting next-generation intelligent, connected, and secure systems, with interests spanning 6G air–ground networks (UAV/flying base stations), reconfigurable/intelligent surfaces (RIS/SIM), secure Open RAN for connected and autonomous vehicles, vehicular and mobile edge computing with digital twins, and privacy-preserving/federated learning for IoT and smart cities. He earned the Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Malaya and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Systems and Computer Engineering at Carleton University, supported by a competitive NSERC scholarship. Before joining TAMU–CC, he held Assistant Professor positions at Illinois State University and Arizona State University.


Dr. Sookhak’s publications include articles in leading venues such as IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking, IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing, and IEEE Communications Surveys & Tutorials. His recognitions include IEEE Access Outstanding Editor (2022-2024), a Wiley Top 10 Most-Cited Article (2024), and the Journal of Network and Computer Applications Best Paper Award (2016). He serves as Senior Editor of IEEE Access and on editorial boards including Vehicular Communications (Elsevier) and IEEE Consumer Electronics Magazine. He has organized tracks for IEEE ICCE and IEEE COINS and served on national review panels. His research has been supported by the U.S. NSF, DoT (CYBER-CARE Center), USDA-NIFA, NIH, and other sponsors.
