Donatella Darsena received the Dr. Eng. degree (summa cum laude) in telecommunications engineering in 2001, and the Ph.D. degree in electronic and telecommunications engineering in 2005, both from the University of Napoli Federico II (Italy). She worked as a system designer in Telecommunications, Peripherals and Automotive Group, STMicroelectronics Milano (Italy) from 2001 to 2002. In 2005 she joined the Department of Engineering at Parthenope University of Napoli (Italy), where she worked first as an Assistant Professor and then as an Associate Professor from 2005 to 2022. Since December 2022, she has been a faculty member in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the University of Napoli Federico II (Italy), where she is currently Associate Professor. Her research interests are in signal processing for communications, with applications to reflected-power communications, orthogonal and nonorthogonal multiple access techniques, wireless system optimization, and physical-layer security.

She received IEEE Communications Letters Exemplary Editor Award as Area Editor in 2020, 2021 and 2022, IEEE International Conference on Communications, Networks and Satellite Award as Best Presenter (track Satellite) in 2023,  IEEE International Conference on Communications, Networks and Satellite Best Communication Paper Award in 2023, and  IEEE International Conference on Communications, Networks and Satellite Best Satellite Paper Award in 2023.

She has been Executive Editor of IEEE Communications Letters since 2023 and Editor of IEEE Signal Processing Letters since 2020.
