Byung Cheol Song (SM’08) received the B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), Daejeon, Republic of Korea, in 1994, 1996, and 2001, respectively. From 2001 to 2008, he was a Senior Engineer with Samsung Research (formerly, the Digital Media Research and Development Center), Samsung Electronics Company Ltd., Suwon, Republic of Korea. In 2008, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, Inha University, Incheon, Republic of Korea, where he is currently a Professor. His research interests include image processing and computer vision.
Prof. Song is an IEEE Senior Member since 2008 and a regular member of ACM and APSIPA. He is a life member of the Institute of Electronics and Information Engineers (IEIE) and has been elected as the Vice President of the IEIE starting from 2024. Since 2020, he has served as the Editor-in-Chief (EIC) of the IEIE Transactions on Smart Processing & Computing. Prof. Song received the Research Pioneer Award from IEIE in 2021. He was also awarded the Samsung Paper Award from Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd, in 2004. Prof. Song is actively involved as a technical committee member or reviewer for top-tier conferences in the fields of Computer Vision and Artificial Intelligence, such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV, and AAAI. He has published about 200 papers in international journals and conferences, including about 40 papers in IEEE Journals. Also, he holds over 200 granted patents, including 5 MPEG standard patents.
