Intelligent Systems for the Internet of Things

Submission Deadline: 1 October 2017

IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Intelligent Systems for the Internet of Things.

Recently, several studies claimed that the Internet of Things (IoT) will dramatically change our daily life. It can be imagined that the era of smart homes and cities will be coming to us soon. The development of IoT, however, has reached a crossroads. Without intelligence, an IoT system will act as an ordinary information system the reactions of which are based on a set of predefined rules. They may not be the services we are looking for. One of the research trends is thus to make this kind of system as smart as it can, by applying so-called “intelligent technologies” so that it can provide us the “right services”. Among the intelligent technologies, handling the massive amount of data generated by systems and devices of the IoT has been widely deliberated as it contains highly useful information. Many other technologies, such as data mining, big data analytics, statistical and other analysis techniques, have also been used for exploring data generated from the IoT. In addition to analysis techniques, intelligent technologies such as simulated annealing, tabu search, genetic algorithm, ant colony optimization, and particle swarm optimization, also provide many possibilities for the IoT because not only can they be used to enhance the performance of a system and its devices, they can also be used to make a system aware of events occurred.

This Special Section in IEEE Access will be focusing on intelligent technologies for the IoT and their applications, such as eHealth, energy, industry and ambient assisted living. We also welcome researches on IoT related technologies, such as cloud computing, network security, wireless sensor network, vehicular networking, smart grids, big data, and M2M (Machine to Machine) technologies. Topics of interest include (but are not limited to):

  • Data Mining for the IoT
  • Soft Computing for the IoT
  • Metaheuristic algorithms for the IoT and M2M
  • Cloud Computing for the IoT
  • Big Data for the IoT
  • Mobile Computing and Sensing for the IoT and M2M
  • Intelligent Network Technologies for the IoT
  • Intelligent Security Framework and Protocol for the IoT
  • Intelligent Privacy Protection for the IoT
  • IoT on eHealth and Ambient Assisted Living
  • IoT on energy management
  • IoT in industry
  • Network Performance Metrics for the IoT
  • Protocols and Standardization of the IoT
  • Internet of Vehicles
  • Applications of the IoT

We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article as it significantly increases the visibility, the number of downloads, and the number of citations of the articles.
