Submission Deadline: 15 December 2017

IEEE Access invites manuscript submissions in the area of Green Signal Processing for Wireless Communications and Networking.

Wireless devices including smart phones, PDAs and network equipment that connects them consume a significant amount of power. The global greenhouse gas emissions produced by the operation of information and communication technology (ICT) infrastructure is comparable to that produced by the aviation industry. This situation is getting worse since billions of new wireless devices are expected to be added to the Internet in the coming decade. Consequently, there are multiple research and development projects that aim to address this issue, including some IEEE Standards intended to reduce the environmental impact of the ICT industry. These standards include energy-efficient communications and networking.

The objective of this Special Section in IEEE Access is to cover the most recent research and development about signal processing techniques to improve sustainability of wireless communications and networking. The articles in this feature topic will focus on state-of-the-art research in various aspects of the technologies of green-oriented signal processing for 4G/5G systems, cognitive radio networks, and other types of advanced wireless communication networks. Moreover, energy-efficient signal processing algorithms and circuits for communications are particularly welcome. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Green communications and networking
  • Recent advances in 5G green communications
  • Green communications for cognitive radio, smart grid, D2D, and heterogeneous networks, etc.
  • Green technologies for V2X communications
  • Green technologies for next generation WiFi, e.g., visual light communications and mm-wave
  • Green physical layer design and algorithm
  • Cross-layer energy enhancement and optimization
  • Testbed for green and sustainable communication systems
  • Energy-efficient circuit architectures for communications

We also highly recommend the submission of multimedia with each article as it significantly increases the visibility, downloads, and citations of articles.
